I did not enter the main hall on the evening of 9th October 2013 expecting much. Call me a pessimist or unfeeling or unappreciative of my class but it was necessary. I deliberately lowered my expectations so that as they shot for the moon, if they landed among the stars, I’d still be glad. Fortunately, they flew true and made home on the moon. I personally believe that the Namagunga flag must be flying on that pitted, rocky surface as a monument to the achievements of that day
As always when a lot of tears sweat and blood are put into an activity, D-day dawns bright and ready, runs smooth as a well-oiled rig. The ministers were dressed to impress as were the girls and the invited guests. The contestants wowed the audience – truly, Namagunga is a wellspring of talent but of course the jewel in the crown had to be the play. For weeks on end, naught had passed the lips of the F.5 class but talk of the play.
Masterminded by Miss Josephine Ndawula,I can only liken it to drinking fireworks. It was an arresting love story possessing amazing soundtracks, perfect lighting, top notch directing, easy transitions between scenes and of course, flawless acting. It wrung all the motion out of the school audience and then hung us out on a wire to dry and wonder… Could there be more? Could we dare hope for more? Some things can only be lived once and any description of them comes out as second rate. Time cannot frost this memory. It only glows brighter with each passing year.
